Island Montessori School - comprised of a private preschool and a public charter elementary (K-8) - is committed to providing a unique, child-centered environment using the internationally recognized curriculum of pioneering educator, Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori philosophy believes that a thoughtfully prepared environment fosters independence, curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. 

Our private preschool opened in Carolina Beach in August 2012. The NC State Board of Education granted our charter the following June and we opened our K-5 public elementary at a 2nd location on Carolina Beach Rd. in August 2013. Since then we've added a grade each year (6th grade in 2014/15, 7th in 2015/16, and 8th in 2016/17).
