Primary Curriculum &
the Montessori Classroom
The Montessori Classroom Experience at Island Montessori
At Island Montessori School, we follow Dr. Maria Montessori’s research-based approach to education, grouping children by developmental stages (ages 3-6, 6-9, and 9-12). This mixed-age structure allows students to progress at their own pace, advancing in areas of strength while receiving the necessary support in more challenging subjects.
Our Primary Classroom (ages 3-6) includes students from our private Preschool and our Charter Kindergarten (both non-profits). Please note that enrollment in our preschool does not guarantee admission into our charter kindergarten (see Charter Admission FAQs for details).
A Prepared Environment for Holistic Growth
Island Montessori provides an uncluttered, inviting, and self-contained classroom designed to spark curiosity, independence, and creativity. Our hands-on learning materials guide children from concrete experiences to abstract understanding, fostering a love of learning, self-reliance, and respect for others. The classroom is a small community where students practice grace, courtesy, and responsibility as they engage in both independent and collaborative learning.

A Hands-On Approach to Learning
Montessori education is based on the principle that children learn best by doing. Our teachers guide students through carefully designed lessons that encourage exploration, discovery, and critical thinking. By offering freedom within structure, children develop confidence, focus, and a lifelong love of learning.
At Island Montessori, we are committed to providing a nurturing, academically rich environment that supports each child's natural curiosity and unique potential. Come discover the Montessori difference!
